Find Wisconsin business names on the Department of Financial Institutions Corporate Records search platform. This portal can be used to browse corporate annual reports and other filed documents as well as determine whether a business name is available to register a new company. If a name appears to be unused, other statutory naming requirements will still apply.

Business Entity Search
1. Visit the DFI Corporate Records Search
2a. Perform a Search
To search for registered entities, enter a name or keyword into the search bar and click Search Records.
Alternatively, select Name Availability to search the same records database for exact business names to help determine whether a name is already taken (see image).
2b. Perform an Advanced Search
Another search option can be accessed by clicking Advanced Search (see image), which provides the following search filters:
- Wording (exact phrase, all words, starting with specific words)
- Entity or registered agent
- Entity status
- Entity current or old names
- Entity type
- Registration date
3. Browse Entity List
A list of companies will be displayed that match the search parameters along with their ID number, entity type, registration date, and status. Click on an entity name to view more information on the business (see image below).
If a records or name availability search yields no results, it means there are no entities that match the keywords provided (see image). This indicates that the name might be available for registering a new entity.
4. View Corporate Records
Selecting an entity name from the results list will bring up the company’s information, including ID, registration date, status, entity type, reporting requirements, registered agent name and address, and principal office address.
The bottom of the corporate records page lists the entity’s annual reports, previous names, and processing dates. Click on Order a Document Copy to receive copies of annual reports and other forms (see image).
